This 2,850 square foot residence in the Houston Heights integrates indoor and outdoor living spaces on 3 stories. The main living spaces and master suite are elevated to the second and third floors, opening on to generous balconies providing a close connection to the landscaped garden as well as affording views of the downtown skyline. The first floor guest bedrooms open on to a covered patio living area that doubles as vehicular drive. A simple palette of exterior materials – burnished concrete block, lap siding, and deep roof overhangs with exposed rafter tails – acknowledge the traditional bungalow styles of the neighborhood while avoiding overt historicism.
