This two-story family home responds to its unusual wedge shaped site with eleven mature trees. Designed with contradictory goals of transparency and privacy, windows and patio doors are oriented around courtyards to the north and south, creating a true sense of secluded indoor-outdoor living. The home for enjoyment by three generations was also designed for aging in place, through the use of wide passageways and barn doors, generous wet zones in the primary bath, and open and unobstructed living spaces. Rich colors and warm, durable finishes throughout complement the owners’ art and objects while requiring little upkeep during frequent travels.
